Sambro Sustainability Projects

Our packaging approach

Sambro is committed to reducing, reusing and recycling all the packaging from our products where possible. The below guide shows you how best to recycle your packaging, but why not think first about if you could reuse it? Could the cardboard box be used to store toys? Could the plastic be used in a craft project or activity? If not then please dispose of it responsibly and help it be recycled into new products or packaging!
Remember to separate all the packaging materials so they don’t contaminate each other.

Using Recycled Materials to Make our Soft Toys

Using Recycled Materials to Make our Soft Toys

As of January 2022, all of the filling in Sambro soft toys is 100% recycled polyester. This filling is created from post-consumer plastic (mostly drinks bottles), so not only does it eliminate the need for virgin plastic but it stops existing plastic waste going to landfill.

Swapping to FSC Paper & Cardboard

Swapping to FSC Paper & Cardboard

Sambro has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council to produce paper, card and wooden products from FSC certified forests. Our first change will be swapping our cardboard packaging to be FSC certified and we are working closely with our vendors to implement this across our range.

Prioritising Less Plastic

Prioritising Less Plastic

As well as our cardboard packaging, we’ve taken a long look at how we use plastics. Our packaging is going plastic free for as many of our products as possible, as we substitute polybags for paper envelopes, and blister trays for moulded cardboard. Our next step is to look at materials beyond just plastic, asking is it necessary and how can we do better?

Switching to Renewable Energy

Switching to Renewable Energy

This year Sambro HQ will make the change to fully renewable energy sources. From the start of our new contract, our office will be powered by 100% renewable energy, helping to offset our carbon footprint and manage our resources for a better outcome.

Rethinking our Packaging

Rethinking our Packaging

We have reviewed our entire range of products and asked ‘is the packaging fit for purpose?’ ‘How could it be better?’ Our Design and Product team have worked closely to make sustainable changes - reducing packaging where possible and removing unnecessary elements. We have also introduced re-usable zip-lock bags for many of our seasonal items- removing the need for disposable plastic bags.
